Ingredients

  • 4 cups - cups filtered water: Needed for cooking the pasta.
  • 24 oz. jar of marinara sauce: I recommend Rao’s brand; it’s well-balanced.
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil: For flavor and richness.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced: Because garlic makes everything better.
  • ½ tablespoon kosher salt: Adjust to your taste.
  • 1 lb. ground beef or any preferred ground meat: Choose whatever suits your palate.
  • ¼ tablespoon freshly ground black pepper: More can be added later to taste.
  • 16 oz. uncooked spaghetti or pasta of your choice: A classic choice; let the pasta conference begin!
  • Optional for serving: Freshly grated parmesan cheese, a drizzle of olive oil, and crushed red pepper flakes.

Method

Step 1: Sauté the Aromatics
  1. Start by drizzling the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Once it’s warm, toss in the minced garlic. Keep an eye on it, as you want it to become fragrant but not burnt. About 30 seconds should do the trick.
Step 2: Brown the Meat
  1. Next, add in your ground meat. Break it apart with a wooden spoon. Season it with salt and pepper as it cooks. Ensure it's browned all over—this step is crucial for building flavor.
Step 3: Add Marinara
  1. Once the meat is browned nicely, pour in the marinara sauce. Stir everything together and let it simmer for about 2 minutes, allowing those flavors to mingle.
Step 4: Introduce Water and Spaghetti
  1. Now it’s time for the magic of one pot cooking. Add the filtered water to the pot and bring everything to a rolling boil. Once boiling, throw the uncooked spaghetti into the pot. Give it a gentle stir to ensure it's well coated in the sauce.
Step 5: Cook and Stir
  1. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and let it cook for about 10-12 minutes. Stir occasionally to keep the pasta from sticking or clumping together. You’ll want your spaghetti to be al dente—perfectly tender yet firm to the bite.
Step 6: Serve and Garnish
  1. Once the spaghetti is cooked through, it’s time to serve. Ladle it into bowls, and if you wish, sprinkle some freshly grated parmesan on top along with a dash of olive oil and crushed red pepper flakes. Get ready for compliments!

Notes

1. Use High-Quality Sauce: Go for a premium marinara sauce. A good quality sauce can elevate the dish.
2. Don’t Skip the Garlic: Fresh garlic adds a depth of flavor. Avoid the jarred versions for the best results.
3. Adjust Water Levels: Depending on the pasta you choose, feel free to adjust the amount of water. Start with the recommended amount, then taste and adjust as needed.
4. Experiment with Meat: Ground turkey, chicken, or even plant-based alternatives work great. Mix it up to find your favorite!
5. Garnish Creatively: Other than parmesan, consider adding chopped fresh basil or parsley for an aromatic finish.
